Officer Charged With Murder
November 22, 2002

An off-duty police officer is charged with murder after a shoplifting suspect he arrested died of head injuries.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 35-year-old Jameel Talley, who also is charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Talley is a Maple Heights police officer who was working as a security guard at the Randall Park Mall Dillard's store in North Randall.

Police say 41-year-old Guy Wills of Cleveland died on November eleventh, two days after Talley arrested him. Police say Talley tried to handcuff Wills and that Wills' head was bleeding when officers arrived.

Cuyahoga County Coroner Elizabeth Balraj says Wills had internal bleeding and a fractured skull.

Talley previously had been fired by the North Randall police for violating deadly force policies after he shot at a fleeing shoplifter.
