A freshman soccer player at Bowling Green State University collapsed five minutes into a game Tuesday and died at a hospital.
Eighteen-year-old Leslie Dawley was away from the action when she fell during a Mid-American Conference tournament game against Buffalo.
Trainers rushed onto the field and tried to revive Dawley. Her teammates covered her with jackets before she was taken by ambulance to Wood County Hospital. Nursing supervisor Mary Davis says she died at the hospital.
Bowling Green sports information director J.D. Campbell has not confirmed Dawley's death. He says the university can't release any information until notifying the appropriate people.
Davis says she doesn't know what caused Dawley's death. She says an autopsy will take place in the next few days.
The 5’4” midfielder, from the Columbus suburb of Westerville, had six assists in 18 games this season.
